How much is your capital ?

Psalms 103.15 and 16 – Man ! His days are like grass, he blooms like the flower of the field. When a wind passes over it, it is no more, and the place it occupied no longer recognizes it.

Imagine that at the beginning I give you a capital of 30,000. You will need 500 to learn how to communicate. You will use about 10,000 of them in an unconscious state. You will still use more than 3,000 to make your place in society. In what you have left, about 4,000 will be for some careless. There will be about 10,000 left that you will use for your leisure but often they will be borrowed from the consequences of bad choices.

Do you understand what I'm talking about ? If you live to be 85, you will have exactly 31,046 days to live. A year and a half to learn to communicate. You will spend a third of it sleeping. A career of 40 years at 8 hours a day is 3,200 days. The time of childhood is about 4,000 days, in short, as Jacob will tell Pharaoh despite his 130 years : “The days of the years of my life have been few and bad” (Genesis 47.9).

If this observation is a little dark, it is to make us aware of the brevity of life. Awareness that may push us towards better life choices. What better choice than to build your life on the Rock of the ages that is Jesus and it is never too late to do so. He is the only one who can give us eternal life, an eternal life of happiness, but the effects of this eternal life are already beginning here below. No, my beloved, nothing beats investing this capital of days in the ever more thorough search for knowledge of the One who is from the beginning.

When our capital is exhausted, we can be said of us as we said of Job : "He died old and full of days" (Job 42.17).

Good day.
