How to be released from our chains ?

You have turned to God leaving idols behind to serve the living and true God. 1 Thessalonians 1.9

The scene takes place in New Guinea, a few years ago. In the center of a Papuan village, in broad daylight, a crowd of natives are singing around a big fire. In turn, each of them throws their fetishes, idols, amulets into the flames and each time the crowd exults.

These Papuans had truly turned to Jesus and, before being baptized, they wanted to show publicly that they were turning their backs on their ancient practices. They were definitely cutting the ties that had held them so long. Obviously, some hesitated more than others before taking the plunge, but Jesus Christ always had the upper hand.

In a Western world, of Judeo-Christian culture, we did not have, in our Christianized countries, to cut ties of this nature during our conversion but did we know how to burn everything that had a hold on us ? Have we asked the Lord, like these people, for the energy necessary to commit ourselves totally to Him ?

All the chains that bind us and these bad habits to which we have become slaves may not seem to us to be serious or condemnable. Let us not forget, however, that even a golden chain remains a chain and hinders our service for the Master and our spiritual progress.

Let us throw into the fire, without delay, with the help of the Lord, what harms us. He will know how to reward us.

Listen the voice of God

Let's take the time to listen to what God wants to say. Ask God what chain could still keep you bound today.

Praying is simple. Speak to God as you would your closest friend. God loves you and he can hear everything. Here is an example of a prayer : "Lord, your truth sets me free. Help me to loosen the chains from which you delivered me but to which I cling. Take all the place in my life. Amen !"

Praise God

Identify the chains from which the Lord has delivered you, and thank Him for the freedom He gives you !

Act today

If you are still hindered in your walk with God, decide in your heart that you want to enter into true freedom and put in place small means like turning off your TV or stopping buying candy.

Honor the Lord

Our journey for the day ends. Let us pray together to honor our God.

"Heavenly Father, no God compares to you. Yours is the reign, the power and the glory, amen !"
