"I have come, that the sheep may have life and have it in abundance." John 10.10
Life is complicated nowadays. This reality can be seen even in the practical aspects of everyday life. For example, when I was a child, there was only one kind of medicine for sinus problems. You did not need to ask at length what remedy to buy or how to treat you: you took this remedy. As an adult, I remember spending almost three quarters of an hour in a pharmacy watching the different treatments trying to figure out which one would be best suited. Should I choose a drug without sleepiness or rather another that would help me sleep ? And for which brand opt ?
The search for simplicity in several areas allowed me to enjoy every day of my life.
We call this progress! But in many ways, the increase in choices, opportunities or activities only makes life more complicated and prevents us from enjoying it. We must learn to lead a balanced and simple life.
The complication could be defined as "making it complex, difficult to disentangle or tangled, twisting". Complicated things are often hard to understand and they disconcert or frustrate us. In contrast, what is simple is "composed of a single part, easy to understand or to do". Simplicity makes life more enjoyable.
The search for simplicity in several areas allowed me to enjoy every day of my life.
Here are four ways to simplify your life :
- Break your daily routine by incorporating in your days a few simple activities that you enjoy. Take a walk or drive.
- Learn to pray simply. A few simple words said in faith are more powerful than a million eloquent words pronounced to impress God. I realized that an important part of my faith was based on my ability to multiply the words, thinking that my eloquence would persuade God to give me what I wanted.
- Get rid of the superfluous. Too much clutter is a source of complication and prevents us from having order. It gives us the feeling of being overwhelmed, of not knowing where we are and may even exhaust us.
- Stop doing several things at once. We tend to view this habit as a force, when in fact it is rather an obstacle. We need to focus on what we do and deal with one thing at a time. Do not wear makeup while driving, or do not talk on the phone while you are doing your accounts. I have set myself the goal of taking advantage of the present moment, and I believe
God wants us to slow down the pace of our lives and do less, but better things.
A word for today
It is important for God that we enjoy our lives. We can have the life that Jesus has gained us by his death if we keep our eyes fixed on him and choose to follow him in all simplicity.
