How you detach from fake shyness ?

Search the Scriptures

For it is not a spirit of timidity that God has given us, but a spirit of strength, love and wisdom. 2 Timothy 1.7

When my 5-year-old niece Angela is asked to pray or perform a "performance" that she has carefully prepared, she sometimes responds, with a small voice that melts my heart : "I can't , I'm shy." I then decided to teach him this verse, this very promise, from the Bible : "For it is not a spirit of timidity that God has given us..."

There are a multitude of temperaments on this Earth : the "jokes" and the more reserved people. So much the better, because this diversity contributes to the balance of our world. However, a "spirit of shyness" is also at work : far from being a personality trait, it constitutes a real obstacle to the fulfillment of everyone's potential.

This "spirit" can block us as we seek to exercise the gifts and talents God has given us. It can also take the form of an insurmountable obstacle : when we wish to express our faith and our hope to someone who does not share it, we are paralyzed by fear.

How can we detach ourselves from this false shyness ? Let us first realize that it is not part of our identity and refuse this label which limits our actions. Then, let us take hold of this other spirit, this gift of God of which the apostle Paul speaks to us : "a spirit of strength, love and wisdom".

This strength counterbalances our shyness, our fear, and pushes us to be bold. Love  reminds us of our only motivation : when we bear witness, it is not to make ourselves look good to God or to Christians; it is to enable others to welcome the good news of the Gospel. Finally, wisdom is essential to allow us to identify favorable opportunities to speak, but also to learn to be silent when silence is preferable.

Listen the voice of God

“Strength, love and wisdom...” Let the Lord enlighten us more deeply on each of these words.

To pray is to talk to God. Speak to Him as you would your closest friend. "Thank you, Lord, for this spirit of strength, love and wisdom that you give me, which dispels all fear and all false timidity. Help me to be more sensitive to your Holy Spirit when I testify."

Praise God

Thank God with your words today, because he wants to free you from this shyness that handicaps you. He wants to set you free !

Act today

With this new freedom that God gives you, start now to talk with your loved ones and testify to them of the beautiful things that God is doing in your life.

Honor the Lord

Our journey for the day ends. Let's pray together.

"Lord, thank you for this insight that helps me to be courageous to witness wisely. To you be the reign, the power and the glory, amen !"
