Human arrogance
Do you claim to penetrate the depths of God's mind ? Do you claim to discover what touches the perfection of the Almighty ? Job 11.7
The book of Job is full of questions. There are nearly 300, to which it is sometimes difficult to find satisfactory answers to know the mind of God. Learning of the terrible misfortunes which befell him, three of Job's friends come to console him. But they end up accusing him, trying to convince him of a particular sin. If they express certain truths, their mistake is that they pass negative judgment on Job, while ignoring that what happened to him was not due to divine judgment, but to satanic action.
The story of Job teaches that man cannot discover God by his intelligence. If he could, he would seek to unravel all the secrets of the Creator. If he can know God, it can only be through revelation, and according to what God himself has decided to reveal to him. It is impossible to unravel the mysteries of God, of his eternal existence, of his greatness, of his intelligence and of his creative power. By seeking to do it on his own, a man is only showing the height of his arrogance.
The apostle Paul writes : How deep are the riches, wisdom and knowledge of God ! How unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways impenetrable ! (Romans 11.33) So, let us accept by faith that the existence and mind of God are revealed to us only in his Word.
