I do not want to work for nothing

"You shine like lights in the world, because you bring the word of life. The day that Christ comes, I can be proud of you. And, as we shall see, I will not have worked for nothing, I will not have been tired for nothing ! "Philippians 2.15-16

At the beginning of last spring, I sowed seeds of Indian carnations found in the bottom of a drawer. In spite of my daily care, it became clear in a few weeks that nothing had grown : not a single small stem in sight ! Yet all the conditions for success seemed to be united : quality soil, beautiful exposure protected from bad weather, watering well dosed ... The reason appeared to me then with evidence : the seeds were simply outdated. After three years of waiting, they had lost all vitality !
The Word of God never returns to him without having produced its effect !

We work sometimes with courage, perseverance and application to works that do not bear the desired fruit. What a disappointment then ! This can be very disappointing to live on the material level but it is even more frustrating at the spiritual level.

The evangelist Matthew tells us that the one who holds the right seed, the one that is alive, is Jesus (Matthew 13:37). When we received Christ, it was because the land of our heart was good and fit to receive its seed and to give good fruit.

But walking with Jesus is a daily walk, a lifelong learning. It's not a one-of-a-kind experience ! We have so much to discover by following in his footsteps. Christ wants to sow his Word in us every day, to speak to us every day and to instruct us every day in order to make us free from the lies of our enemy, the devil.

So do not waste time sowing in your lives what has lost all vitality : the precepts of human wisdom, the philosophies of this world, corruption, religiosity or simply your own thoughts which are by nature remote from those Of your Creator.

As Paul reminds us, let God transform you by giving you a new intelligence (Romans 12: 2). Thus, you will not be disappointed to have lost time to plant seeds devoid of vitality. For this is excellent news : the Word of God never returns to him without having produced its effect !

A decision for today

Lord, renew my understanding of your will, enlighten me by your Word, that my life may be useful in your hands, that I do not work for nothing, and that I have the joy of seeing your good seed give good fruit ! Amen.
