I don't ask him for more money

Saturday 1 May 2021

Cast all your worries on him (God), he takes care of you. 1 Peter 5.7

So don't worry about the next day, because the next day will take care of itself. Each day has enough trouble of its. Matthew 6:34

I don't ask him for more money

This morning the doorbell rings. A gentleman offers me his services for the maintenance of the garden. Something in his attitude prompts me to strike up a conversation. We find that we are both Christians. My visitor tells me that he converted some time ago, and that his life has been transformed. Finding work is a daily concern for him. But now he's living it with his God. Before leaving me, he adds : "Now, I no longer ask God to give me money, I ask him to take the worry away from me".

In its simplicity, this remark touches me and often comes back to me. It is well in agreement with the teaching of Jesus to his disciples : "Do not worry about what you will eat and drink for your life... Who of you by his worries, can add a moment to the duration of his life ? And why worry about the clothing ?... Do not worry then and say : What will we eat ? What will we drink ? What will we dress in ? Do not worry about the next day, for the the next day will take care of itself. For each day its suffering suffices" (Matthew 6, 25-34).

God knows we need these material things, and it is natural to care about them. This Christian trusted in God, he did not remain inactive for all that : he went from door to door to find work. But he had learned what we often have difficulty in doing : unloading on God the care that these material things cause.
