I love you, me neither !
“Now this hope does not deceive, because the love of God is poured out into our hearts by the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.” Romans 5. 5
Children's Bible teachers are often surprised by their prayers! Sometimes their way of expressing themselves is so candid that it leaves us amazed. Maybe children understand some things better than many adults. A child is said to have prayed : “God, it must be really hard to love everyone, all over the world, all the time ! There are only four people in my family and I can't do it !" And you, are you doing better ? In order to be able to love as God loves, one must first know the God of love. You can love in many ways : you can love green beans, you can love the elderly, or you can love your dog. However, it must be remembered that to love is a verb and not a noun, a state or an emotion and like any verb 'to love' must necessarily manifest itself in actions. Love, on the other hand, is a name and therefore we can share it or receive it. However, before sharing it, we must learn to love. To truly love as God loves, we must first experience His saving love : “This is how God proves His love for us : While we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5 8). We are all sinners but God loves us and demonstrated it by the action of Jesus Christ on the cross. If we recognize ourselves as sinners, incapable of loving as we should, and if we accept the work of Jesus Christ on the cross, we are then ready to receive the love of God which is poured into our hearts by the Holy Spirit. Only then will we be able to share it and give it away. God could have simply told us that He loved us and contented himself with words, but He 'proved' His love : “He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him may have eternal life” (John 3.16) . Sometimes love is expensive ! It forces us to step out of our comfort zone. But let's not forget that God in giving us Jesus Christ has already paid a very great price !
