(Jesus said) : Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will go into his house, I will have supper with him and he with me. Revelation 3:20

I stand at the door and knock

An English artist, Hunt, painted a famous painting : "The light of the world". We see Jesus knocking on the door of a house. The house represents our life, the door is that of our heart. In front of the door grow weeds, brambles and ivy. Obviously the door to Christ has not been opened for a long time. Maybe it's locked ? So many men and women have locked their hearts. A turn of the key because of an illness, a failure. A turn of the key because the one I loved left me. A turn of the key because God seems deaf to my prayers. A turn of the key because after all, it is more convenient to live as if God is not there.

What are the turns of the key that prevent us from opening to Jesus ? Identifying them is already turning the key in the other direction, it has already started to open.

On the painting, another detail surprises us. There is no handle on the door. The handle is inside. She's on our side. This is how Jesus acts with each of us. He is knocking on the door of our heart. This manifests in our life in many ways : a landscape, a meeting, a joyful or painful event, but also a verse from the Bible, a testimony...

If we hear the voice of Jesus, let us be attentive to say to him : "Come, Lord, dwell with me." And he will.
