I will sing of joy

"It is good to celebrate the LORD, and to sing hymns to the glory of your name, O Most High ! To proclaim in the morning thy goodness, and thy faithfulness in the night ... For, O LORD ! Thou hast rejoiced me with thy deeds ; I will sing for joy because of the works of your hands." Psalm 92: 1-4

"All who trust in thee shall rejoice, they shall sing for joy forever, and thou shalt protect them; And those who love your name will be enlightened in you." Psalm 5: 11

Psalm 92 is a hymn for the sabbath day, the seventh day that God gave to his people to rest and to find time to turn gratefully to him (Lev 23: 3). David's Psalm 5 expresses the joy of one who trusts in God, despite the adversity that he can pass through.

There was no lack of rejoicing in the people of Israel ! It was enough to consider the acts of the Lord :

- those of the past, the great facts which accompanied the whole history of the people since the exodus from Egypt, its deliverances and its miraculous victories.

- those of the present, of the past week, when all the minor events of life had testified to the benevolent activity of God.

For us Christians, it is the first day of the week, the day of the resurrection of the Lord, that we rejoice together around him. We also remember the great things God did. His eternal plans and wonderful designs fuel praise. What joy to be able to announce the love of God by evoking the wonders of the work of the cross and the glories of the person who has accomplished it !

But it is also every day that, individually or as a family, we can rejoice in the constant care of God. It is daily that we observe his fidelity and goodness, what God does in our lives, his solicitude in all our circumstances, his permanent interventions in our favor.

In realizing how God loved us and constantly surrounds us with his love, we sing to David : "Thou hast been my help, and in the shadow of thy wings I will sing for joy" (Psalm 63: 7).
