Idols

They (the Israelites) turned away from me because of their idols... come back to me and forsake your idols. Ezekiel 14.5,6

We are united with the true God if we are united with his Son Jesus Christ. It is he who is the true God and eternal life. Little children, keep yourselves from idols. 1 John 5:20,21

Idols

Many people worshiped idols. And this is still the case today. Do not believe that a piece of wood or stone can have power. On the other hand, the one who teaches or practices these powers is in relation with evil and deceptive powers. While the idol is nothing in itself, the teachings of those who adhere to these practices are not spiritually neutral.

These are, we read in the Bible, "doctrines of demons" (1 Timothy 4.1). One of the ways the powers of evil act is to spread false information and false philosophies.

Our contemporary world is filled with teachings opposed to God, even if they are not displayed as such. Anything that leads to indifference to God is actually against God. Anything that is vain, disconnected, willingly or unconsciously from our relationship with God, easily becomes an idol because it takes up our time and our thoughts.

To resist this deception, we have the Word of God. It reveals Jesus Christ to us. He is the truth, he is "the image of the invisible God" (Colossians 1:15), he is "the true God and eternal life". He is "the way, the truth, and the life" (John 14.6). Through him, we can relate to the living God : he who delivered us from the power of darkness also has the power to keep us from evil (Colossians 1:13 ; Jude 24).
