Genealogy of Jesus Christ, son of David, son of Abraham. Matthew 1.1

In search of our origins

Currently, genealogy is very popular. Finding one's roots is an exciting pastime. You can spend many hours consulting archives to find out who your ancestors were.

The first verses of the New Testament contain a list of names of the ascendants of Jesus. He comes from a long line of people. At the top of the list, David (who was entrusted with the kingship) and Abraham (who received the promise to become the father of a people). Jesus is the Son of God and the Son of man, he is the promised king. He is the Messiah, the perfect fulfillment of the promise.

The Bible says that those who put their faith in Christ (John 1:12-13) are adopted sons and daughters of God, brothers and sisters of the King of kings. It is the privilege of every child of God, redeemed by the blood of Jesus Christ. The “heavenly genealogy” includes all those whose names are written in heaven (Luke 10:20). They are the innumerable spiritual descendants made up of men and women whom God has acquired for his glory.

Undoubtedly it is important to know its origins. But there is more important still : to be a member of the eternal family of God.
