Interrogate the author

"But the Comforter, the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send in my name, he is the one who will teach you all things and remind you all that I have told you." John 14.26

I had to change the lamp of my office lately. I spend long hours reading and praying and my old halogen lamp was very powerful. I loved her a lot, but she gave up the ghost. To replace it, I found only one of these modern lamps with low voltage bulbs whose brightness is lower by two thirds.

"The Holy Spirit is the best teacher you can have."

My purchase reminded me of one important truth : the stronger the bulb, the better you see. Everything becomes clearer in the light. If you have your picture taken, you do not want too powerful lighting that would bring out all your imperfections. You prefer a dim light. Everyone is beautiful in the dark !

This general principle also applies to the Bible. The more enlightened your mind is, the more you will discover riches in the Word of God.

This is the work of the Holy Spirit : to help you understand the Word of God and show you how it applies to your life. Jesus said in John 14:26 : "But the Comforter, the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and remind you all that I have said to you."

The role of the Holy Spirit is to show you in the Bible what you would not have seen without its illumination. If you do not have the Holy Spirit, you will miss many riches. The Holy Spirit is the best teacher you can have.

God did not only give you the revelation - the Bible - but he also gave you enlightenment, the ability to understand what he is telling you.

The Bible is the only book that allows you to speak with its author while you read it ! As you read, you can ask the Holy Spirit : "What does this mean ? and how can this apply to my life ?" Do it, and God will speak to you. It will whisper in your ear or print thoughts and feelings in you.

An action for today

When you do not understand the Bible, ask the Holy Spirit to explain it to you.
