Is this the right question ?

The disciples... greatly astonished... said : "Who then can be saved ?" Matthew 19.25

We are not always willing to pray for the salvation of this or that ; that such and such a person can agree to turn to God and welcome him seems impossible to us ! Maybe we are the one for whom we can't believe it.

Mark relates the story of a man who hesitated to believe that Jesus could intervene on his behalf (Mark 9:14-24). In today's text, it is the disciples who doubt human abilities. Well Named. Is there a man capable of abandoning his privileges, of renouncing all that he has ? or believe to have ? and find yourself completely helpless to follow the Master ?

Jesus does not contradict them. It is indeed impossible. As we are born, with the heritage of our first parents, moreover victims of the media hype of a materialistic civilization, we can only, like the young man of the Gospel, leave very sad but without answering the expectation of God.

Only, the Lord shifts the question. It is not a question of what a human can, but what God cannot. Faced with the doubts of Abraham's wife, the angel of the Lord asked as if before the evidence : Is there anything impossible for the Lord ? (Genesis 18.14)

Yes, Jesus said in a way to the disciples, you are right, it is impossible for men, but here is what you are forgetting : with God, everything is possible.
