It is in the calm that will be your strength
Searching the Scriptures
Judas therefore took the troop of Roman soldiers and the guards sent by the chief priests and the Pharisees, and he went there with lanterns, torches and weapons […] Simon Peter […] smote the servant of the great -priest and cut off his right ear […] Jesus said to Peter : Put your sword back in its sheath. Shall I not drink the cup which the Father gave me to drink ? John 18.3-11
In the middle of the night, soldiers were stationed around Jesus and his disciples, who were standing in a secluded place. Only the light of lanterns and torches pierced the darkness. Everyone knew that that moment would one day come, and that Jesus' adversaries would use force against him and his disciples. Now the threats had come true.
Peter had a very human reaction : he hit one of the men violently, but Jesus behaved differently. He did not give in to threats or emotion. He remained calm, so calm that he even took the time to teach Peter important truths !
He wanted his disciples to be able to take a different look at events. He wanted to show them that God's will was first in his life, that in any situation it was more important for him to please God than to fulfill his own desires.
Jesus was able to face this crisis calmly because he was prepared. He knew that he would be betrayed and that the Father had called him to die, but he was not afraid ! He had spent time in prayer and he was strong in the Spirit.
What crises are you facing ? Make sure you are prepared for it ! Fill your mind and heart with the Word of God. Spend time in prayer. Be filled with the Spirit and let Him equip you and help you control your emotions. Submit your will to God. Trust Him and try to turn the crises you are going through into opportunities to witness for God.
Listen to the voice of God
Let's take the time to listen to what God means. What area of your life do you need to surrender more to God ?
Praying is easy. Talk to God as you would your closest friend. God loves you and he can hear everything. Here is an example prayer : “Father, help me to be strong in the Spirit and to be prepared to face the events of life. I trust you to lead my life. In the name of Jesus. Amen."
Praise God
To praise God is to show him our gratitude. Today, what are your subjects of recognition ? Take a time to thank the Lord.
Act today
Now dig deeper into what you have received. What can you do to apply what God has told you ? Write down the concrete actions you can take.
Honor the Lord
Our route for the day comes to an end. Let us pray together to honor our God.
"Thank you Lord, for in calm and confidence will my strength be. Yours is the reign, the power and the glory, amen !"
