Jesus Christ - the Verb, the Word

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. John 1:1

Jesus Christ... existing in the form of God, did not consider it a prey to be snatched from being equal to God. Philippians 2:5,6

Eternal in existence, distinct in presence, divine in essence.

Such is Jesus Christ forever. Having become a man, he abandons nothing that characterizes him eternally : The mystery of godliness is great : he who was manifested in the flesh, justified by the Spirit, seen by angels, preached to the Gentiles, believed in the world, raised up in glory (1 Timothy 3:16).

A mystery cannot be explained by reasoning, but it is reasonable to accept it by faith. Faith is not defined rationally either, but it is justified by the nature and excellence of the One on whom it is based. Only man's pride prevents him from believing and therefore from understanding, for it is said : By faith we know that the world was formed by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made of visible things (Hebrews 11:3).

If it is a question of the person of Jesus Christ, man, by his reasonings, will never be able to grasp its greatness. Even when he was on earth, despite the condition of man accessible to all in which he lived, his Being escaped all analysis. To the question of the Jews about his identity : Who are you ? they told him. Jesus answered them : What I said unto you from the beginning (John 8:25). His words are the perfect expression of what he himself is, but they still have to be received by faith. Otherwise, they remain incomprehensible.

To this knowledge of Jesus is added the knowledge, no doubt imperfect, of his accomplished work and of the glorious revelations that the Word of God gives concerning what concerns the future. God did not want to hide anything from us that he deems useful for us to know. By grace, the Holy Spirit allows us to understand something of the revelations entrusted to Daniel (Daniel 12:4,10) or those of the book of Revelation about the Lord himself, his redeemed and the humanity.

Let us read the Word of God to know our Lord Jesus Christ better, to love him better, to honor him better and to serve him better.
