Jesus, our Anchor

Your throne has been established for a long time, you have existed from all eternity. The rivers utter, O Lord, the rivers utter their voice, the rivers utter the roaring of their waves. Even more than the voice of great waters, of the mighty waves of the sea, the Lord is mighty in the heavenly places. Psalm 93: 2-4

What a beautiful image of the majesty and supremacy of our God. Rivers are one of the greatest powers at work in our world, a power that humans can never control or tame.

To go further, often in the Bible, rivers represent the tumult and effervescence of rebellious nations, of the man who separated himself from God in rebellion and revolt.

"Like the psalmist, we are to look beyond the chaos and contemplate, by faith, God seated on his throne."

In the New Testament, Jesus speaks of the signs that would mark the end of these times. It speaks of oceans and roaring waves and of the human heart that trembles in fear. There is therefore talk of an alarming rise in opposition and rebellion against divine majesty.

All around us, the sound of the waves, the roaring rivers, the thunder of the crashing waves. But in the midst of it all, just like the psalmist, we must look beyond the chaos and contemplate, by faith, God, seated on His throne in His supremacy, and recognize that He has absolute control over it.

A prayer for today

Lord, I am truly grateful that you are still on the throne of the universe! That despite the chaos in the world, the roaring rivers, fear and awe, you remain the same, unwavering. Thank you, Lord Jesus, for being the Anchor of my life and for holding me in your peace.
