Jesus the gift of God

"Thanks to God for his inexpressible gift !" 2 Corinthians 9. 15

In his second letter to the Corinthians Paul concludes his remarks on the collection of gifts which express generosity to the saints by an exclamation of praise and thanksgiving. He thinks of God's greatest gift to men. A gift that all believers know ! It is the inexpressible gift of Jesus Christ, the supreme gift which contains all the other gifts: "He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all, He does not also freely give of all things with him ?" (Romans 8:32).

This gift is beyond all that the human mind can express. If we can say something about it, it is through the Holy Spirit. In fact, the apostle Paul tells us : "the Spirit searches every thing, even the deep things of God" (1 Corinthians 2:10) ; He had received "the Spirit which is of God, that we may know what has been freely given to us by God" (1 Corinthians 2:12).

Although all the Scriptures speak of Jesus Christ, His person, His work, this wonderful gift remains incomparable, inexpressible, and inscrutable. For two disciples on the road to Emmaus, it is the Lord Himself who opens the TA. To show what had to be his sufferings, his death, his resurrection and his glory (Luke 24:27). God has given us the four Gospels to show us four aspects of the person and work of Jesus Christ. He has given us the book of Acts of the Apostles to attest that Jesus of Nazareth was indeed the expected Messiah and that the Gospel is offered to all men. The Epistles develop the doctrine of Christ and show how the plans of God's love are realized through His Son. As for the last book of the N.T., the Apocalypse, it is above all the revelation of a person. And because this person is Jesus Christ, the Son of God, symbols and visions abound to try to make understand what ordinary words can not express.

We often seek words to express our gratitude to this God who gives. It is difficult to find the appropriate expressions to speak of Jesus, the perfect man and Son of God.

It is the most magnificent, the most glorious, the most extraordinary gift ever made. It is inexpressible. We can only worship this God who made it to us.
