Jesus wept !
John 11:35 - Jesus wept.
You have certainly been told it before, but this verse is the shortest in the Bible. It's like God is sending us an all important text message! It could contain : “Jesus saves or Jesus heals” ; no, in two words, the Word of God expresses all the compassion, the sadness, the very anguish of the Creator !
Jesus cried in front of Lazarus' tomb. Jesus wept over death which is one of the first consequences of sin. Jesus wept over the human suffering that the two sisters of the deceased felt in this mourning. Jesus wept over all the unbelief that was around that tomb. Jesus wept over what became of man, the culmination of creation, over stolen immortality... Jesus also wept over Jerusalem, He was stirred in his bowels for the crowds, sheep without shepherd, for the widow, for the leper... The Divine was so human !
My beloved, if we say that Jesus dwells in our hearts and that we show insensitivity, we are deceiving ourselves ! How long has it been since we last cried for others because what is happening to them hurts us as much as it does them ? When was the last time the Holy Spirit stirred our bowels with compassionate feelings ? What is our reaction to the tombs of Lazarus, all that is the fruit of death ?
The Lord Jesus did not stop at tears, He raised the dead with power ! If He weeps with us sometimes, He is also the God of miracles who will wipe away every tear from our eyes. We may be sowing with tears today, but the day is coming when we will reap with songs of joy ! (Psalm 126.5).
Good reflection !
