Joseph in front of Pharaon

"You will be on my house, and all my people will go according to your command ; only as to the throne, I will be greater than you. And the Pharaoh said to Joseph : See, I have established you over all the land of Egypt." Genesis 41. 40, 41

Jealous of his brothers, Joseph had been sold 20 silver coins to caravaneers who were on their way to Egypt ; he was then sold to Potiphar "Pharaoh's officer, chief of the guards" (Gen. 37, 36). His lot was to be a slave to a high official in Egypt ! Calumniously accused, he is locked up in the prison reserved for the servants of the king. It is there that he reveals to two royal officers, condemned like him, the meaning of their dreams. One of them was released but "forgot" to intervene on his behalf with the pharaoh.

Two years later, a dream is intriguing to Pharaoh ; no diviner can interpret it ; Joseph is then thought of : "They made him run from the pit, and he shaved himself, and changed his clothes ; and he came before Pharaoh" (Genesis 41:14). Here he is now in front of Pharaoh !

He interprets the dream while giving all glory to God : "God will give a response of peace to Pharaoh" (Gen. 41, 16). He remains humble, not wishing to profit from the situation. Nevertheless, he proposes a solution for the difficulties announced by the dream, a long-term strategy to survive the next 14 years. A prison slave who brings the solution ! Here is Joseph promoted viceroy of Egypt !

What a path from the day he was sold by his brothers to Ishmaelite caravaneers ! What submission too : Joseph never complained about his fate ! And what elevation in the end ! He had certainly never considered such an outcome. He had shown absolute submission to the sovereign ; he had no disagreeable words to him who had allowed him to languish in prison ; he had a firm interpretation of the monarch's dream, not seeking revenge or assertion.

God was good to Joseph, giving him more than he would have expected. God is good to each of his children, never giving up any of his own. After the moments of trial come moments of joy ; and trials also allow us to experience all the solicitude of God towards his people.
