The LORD said to Moses : Take Joshua the son of Nun. He is a man in whom the Spirit dwells. Numbers 27:18
Joshua, a man of faith
Joshua is an example of a fully prepared and fully prepared man of God (2 Timothy 3:17) as :
Army leader (Exodus 17:8-16)
He leads the Israelites to victory over Amalek when the enemy wants to stop the advance of the people in the desert to prevent them from benefiting from the promises of God. Joshua fights in the plain while Moses intercedes on the mountain. Likewise, from our conversion, the devil is our enemy. We must fight, but victory is assured from heaven through the intercession of Jesus. Let us fully trust Christ who wants to make us victorious.
Servant of Moses (Exodus 24:13)
Joshua learns from Moses that he serves :
In a privileged location, close to God, on Mount Sinai. There he listens to God. In a difficult time when the people have sinned by idolatry, they share the concerns of Moses (Exodus 32:17). He hears Moses' conversations with God when he speaks to him face to face, as a man speaks with his friend (Exodus 33:11). His spiritual discernment is developing. This is a key part of his training. We also seek contact with spiritual people.
Witness (Numbers 13:9,17)
Along with eleven other princes of the tribes of Israel, including Caleb, he was sent to reconnoitre the land of Canaan. Despite the giants to face, Joshua believes God who promised to give Israel the land of Canaan, a very good land (literally : a very, very good land). His faith may cost him his life, but he stands firm, as does Caleb : The Lord is with us ; do not fear the inhabitants of the land (Numbers 14:9). God rewards their faithfulness ; it allows them to enter the Promised Land.
Servant of God's people (Numbers 27: 15-18)
At the end of his life and at the command of God, Moses makes Joshua his successor. Joshua's moral and spiritual qualities designate him, for the Spirit is in him.
Servant of God and head of family (Joshua 24:15)
Aged Joshua demonstrates his spiritual authority by again taking a very firm stand for the Lord : I and my house will serve the Lord.
God needs men and women like Joshua : steadfast in the faith, grounded in the scriptures, accomplished, and perfectly prepared for any good work.
