Judas and Simon Peter (3) - Warning

The love of money is indeed at the root of all evil. By indulging in it, some have strayed far from the faith and inflicted many torments on themselves. 1 Timothy 6:10

Judas lived close to Jesus. He has witnessed his many miracles. He was even sent to cast out demons, and heal diseases in Jesus' name (Matthew 10. 1-4). Outwardly, he was really like the others ! When Jesus told the twelve disciples that one of them was going to betray him, no one suspected Judas. But the name of Judas, in the gospels, is always associated with his future betrayal. We do not deceive God !

The case of Judas is unique, of course, but it gives us a very serious warning. Going to church, professing to be a "Christian", having the name of Jesus on your lips, can allude very well. But that will never make you a true disciple, and it will not save you. You need faith, a personal relationship with Jesus. For the crowd of those who call themselves Christians, Jesus makes the difference between the true, Christians at heart, and those who have only the facade. The story of Judas shows that his heart was never touched by the love of Jesus.

Another side of the story of Judas : he loved money, and he became a thief. Satan used that to draw him away from Jesus. He finally took possession of him, for his loss.

Satan attracts men with all kinds of lusts, and wants to lead them to perdition after him. Love is foreign to him, Satan loves no one. In distress, do not expect help from him. He is a ruthless and cruel master who will abandon you to your despair. But what love of Jesus for Simon Peter ! How he took care of himself !
