Keep talking !

Job 35:6 and 8 (Word of Life) - When you act badly do you hurt God ? When you keep rebelling, what does it do to Him ? Nothing at all !... The evil you do only hurts a man like you !

We sometimes have a sentimental view of God's reactions. We believe He is affected by our misconduct. Now, through the mouth of Elihu, Job's fourth friend, the Word comes to tell us the opposite.

We must realize that sin causes our self-destruction. If we want to decide to do ourselves good, let's stop sinning. Let us vigorously resist this cancer of the soul which causes so much pain and suffering.

Is God insensitive to human misery ? Finally, was man created to suffer and die ? Certainly not ! God is a God of blessings and Love. How could we say He is Love if He was insensitive to the consequences of sin. Truth be told, it affected Him so much that He decided to pay the price so that men could find abundant life again. In Jesus Christ you can find salvation and healing from this evil that is eating away at humanity.

To be more explicit, here is what Elihu meant : "You can rebel against God, you can insult him, denigrate his existence, raise a threatening fist to the sky... your rebellion will not reach him. You are not wrestling with a man you can hurt, you are wrestling with the Creator of the universe. What low blow are you going to be able to deliver to Him ? Your disobedience only affects your own life and that of those who must endure your moods."

There is only one right attitude to the Love that God offers us : it is surrender. As our English speaking friends say : “I surrender” !
