Keep the faith (1)
“I have been compelled to send you this letter to encourage you to fight for the faith handed down to the saints once and for all.” Jude 3
As he left the leaders of the church in Ephesus for the last time, Paul said to them : “I know that after my departure cruel wolves will enter among you, and they will not spare the flock ; from your own ranks men will arise who will give perverted teachings to lead the disciples to follow them. So stay vigilant and remember that for 3 years, night and day, I have not ceased to warn each of you with tears” (Acts 20.29-32). Was Paul too pessimistic ? Let's fly over the years. Let’s listen to God speaking to the same church in Ephesus : “You gave up your first love. So remember where you fell, repent and do your first works. Otherwise I will come to you soon and take your lampstand out of its place... He that has ears, listen to what the Spirit says to the churches” (Revelation 2. 4-7). Pay attention to the words “practice your first works”. We must continually return to the scriptural foundations of our faith and pass them on to our children. The infallibility of the Bible, the miraculous birth of Jesus born of a virgin, His sinless life, His death which redeems our sins, His bodily resurrection and His work as mediator between God and men, our need to be saved , baptized, filled with the Holy Spirit, our role to preach the Gospel to the four corners of the planet and to announce His imminent return as supreme judge and king. These are the indisputable foundations of this “faith which was transmitted to the saints” as Jude said (Jude 3). So let's all keep this faith together !
