Keep the faith (2)

“Fight the good fight of faith, grab hold of eternal life. It is to her that you were called and it is for her that you made a beautiful profession of faith in the presence of a large number of witnesses.” 1 Timothy 6:12

The Bible says : “We must hold on to the message we have heard all the more so that we may be drawn to our ruin” (Hebrews 2: 1). The phrase "drawn to our ruin" should ring in our brains like a fire alarm. Jesus pointed out that the enemy had come to sow weeds in the field while the workers were sleeping. When they awoke, they noticed "that an enemy had done this" (Matthew 13:28). Cancer begins by attacking a single cell, but if it is not found it continues to destroy the rest of the body. This is why Jude said : “I was compelled to send you this letter to encourage you to fight for the faith handed down to the saints once and for all. There have indeed crept among you certain men whose condemnation has been written for a long time. These wicked turn the grace of our God into debauchery and deny God, the only master, and our Lord Jesus Christ” (Jude 3,4). Notice the words : “the faith which was given to the saints once and for all”. Our methods may change, but the message remains the same. Paul wrote : “The time will come when men will not endure sound doctrine” (2 Timothy 4:3). Study the progression of faith in the lives of Abraham, Isaac, and then Jacob. The blessings that Abraham enjoyed were the result of a personal relationship with God. Isaac inherited the blessings bestowed on his father, but it was only after being attacked by the Philistines that he retraced his steps and again dug his father's wells before raising an altar to God. Finally Jacob, the third generation, came along and tried to obtain the same blessings by cheating and lying. But it was only after meeting God in Peniel, an event that changed his life, that he put it back on the foundation that Abraham and then Isaac had laid long before him. So let's keep this faith that has been transmitted to us, and let our children pass on the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth !
