Keep your heart from bitterness !

2 Kings 7.9 (BFC) - But then they said to each other : "What we are doing here is not good : today we have good news and we keep it to ourselves. If we wait until daylight to publish it, we will certainly be punished. Lets go ! We must take this news to the royal palace”.

Samaria was besieged by the Syrians. Four desperate lepers had joined the enemy camp to find food. There, they could see the deliverance wrought by God because the camp was empty of human presence, but full of booty. Their first reaction had been to “help themselves” selfishly but, regaining their conscience, they decided to inform the city which was suffering from famine.

My point this morning is : is my heart cured of bitterness ? These four men, because of their illness, had been excluded from the community. They couldn't even live in the city anymore, they had been driven out. They were not only looked upon as pestiferous, but they were treated that way. Rejection always provokes a hint of bitterness and if we let it grow, it will invade our whole soul with its poison. It is a normal human reaction but God wants to heal us !

In God's time, our four lepers were deeply blessed. All of a sudden, all their material needs found a solution. It was there that the Holy Spirit convinced them that if they did not share this blessing with those who had rejected them, they were not doing right. So it is with the Lord. Keep your heart free from bitterness and when God gives you his favor, be a source of blessings to others.

We would also like to address those who reject others because of their "leprosy", whatever name it is given. You expose yourself to those people you reject becoming the only means of deliverance and blessing that God will give you. The justice of God often acts like this because what matters to God is the heart ! What's going on in your heart ?

One thing is certain, my beloved, the Lord loves an honest and good heart, free from all prejudice and all bitterness. This is where his Word plants the good seed.

Good reflection.
