Learn his rest

"Come unto me all who are weary and heavy, and I will give you rest." Matthew 11:28

A few years ago, after a visit to the ophthalmologist, I was anxiously awaiting the glasses that would make my migraines and eyesight disappear.

To learn his rest, is to decide to trust him, a question will, drive ...

But what a disappointment ! With the new mount my evils did not disappear, on the contrary. Persuaded by a misdiagnosis, I went back to see the doctor, whose advice left me perplexed : I had to persevere and get used to my glasses.

He explained to me that my eyes had been accustomed, for many years, to compensate, alone, my defects of vision. The ocular muscles, overtrained, continued their efforts and did not accept correction.

The result was entirely right. In less than a month, to my astonishment, everything returned to order. My eyes had stopped resisting and had learned to rest, to let the glasses work for them.

What a lesson! In the realm of faith, it is the same thing.

Jesus invites you to forsake his burdens. He wants to do it for you. And yet you are so accustomed to managing without him, to fighting alone your weaknesses, to face your trials as if he did not walk with you. You must learn to rest.

How many times have you decided to rely on him ? You had just prayed, trusted him. And then, in the next minute, you forgot everything and picked up your painful baggage.

To learn his rest is to decide to trust him, a matter will, drive. You have everything to gain. However, this is not natural to you when you want to regain control. But let Jesus direct your life. Get used to walking by faith and not by sight, to lean on his promises, on his Word, certain.

Command thy fate unto the LORD, trust in him, and he shall do, saith Psalm 37: 5. It is only when you have accomplished this step of faith that you will win the battle.

A prayer for today

Lord, help me to take hold of your blessings. I no longer want to exhaust myself to fight alone my problems. I want to enter this domain of the miraculous and fruitful faith, that faith which will make me enter into your repose, in a supernatural way. Amen.
