Let God shape your life

"... In his heart, Haman said to himself : To whom then would the king desire to do honor more than to me ?" Esther 6.6

Haman was not just confident, he was arrogant. After having entrusted him with a high post in the kingdom of Persia, the king had ordered his servants to bow and prostrate "in honor of Haman" (Esther 3: 1-2).

We can all be victims of pride, sometimes in a very subtle way.

Overwhelmed by so much power and prestige, Haman acquired a false vision of himself. So he did not approve of Mordecai refusing to bow to him. Forgetting all the services formerly rendered by Mordecai, Haman decided to have him put to death, and all the Jews with him. His machinations ended by exploding in broad daylight, and he was hanged on the gallows which he had erected for Mordecai.

The life of Haman shows the terrible impact that pride can have on a person. We can all be victims of pride, sometimes in a very subtle way. The Bible tells us that "Pride precedes disaster, and an arrogant spirit precedes the fall" (Proverbs 16:18). Pride corrupts our attitudes. As Haman's example shows us, it makes us blind to our weaknesses.

How to avoid this pride ? Being humble. By putting everything back to God.

The Bible tells us again : "The wicked man says with arrogance," He does not punish ! "There is no God !" (Psalms 10: 4). It is important that God is in all our thoughts. We must place it at the center of our lives. Look for him continually and remind us that we are his servants.

If we humble ourselves before God, he will help us to keep a true vision of our gifts and abilities. He will remind us that he has blessed us so that we may be blessed in our turn. That we all have limits. And he will help us to honor and glorify him !

Today, make sure you are not guilty of the sins of Haman. Humble yourself before God. Give him back your life. Seek first his kingdom. Let it direct and shape your life.

A prayer for today

Father, I humble myself before you. I owe you everything. Forgive my pride. I want to devote my life to serving you. I am your servant. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
