Let us pray for the missionaries (2)

Persevere in prayer, watch over it with thanksgiving. Colossians 4:2

Prayer is a powerful way to make the testimony of God's servants effective. The apostle Paul was very aware of this :

“Brothers, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may be spread and glorified as it is among you, and that we may be delivered from wicked and perverse men ; for not all have faith” (2 Thessalonians 3:1-3).

Paul asks the Thessalonians for prayers in three directions :

- May the message of the Gospel spread rapidly.

- May the message triumph.

- May messengers be delivered from men who hinder the spread of the Gospel.

“Persevere in prayer, watch over it with thanksgiving. At the same time pray for us, so that God will open a door for us to speak, so that I can proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains, and make it known as I must speak of it” (Colossians 4:2-4).

A subject of prayer was particularly close to the heart of the apostle Paul : the service of the Gospel and the revelation of the mystery of Christ. He is not asking the Colossians to pray for the door of his prison to be opened, but for God to open a door for the Gospel.

Furthermore, Paul reminds the Colossians to remember to accompany their prayers with thanksgiving. As we pray for missionaries, let us always be grateful for answered prayers and be sure that :

- God loves them : he wants what is best for them.

- God is wise : he knows what is best for them.

- God is powerful : he gives them what is best for them.

Let's spend more time praying with all our heart and soul, it's worth it. Prayers thwart Satan's designs and can change the course of history. In heaven, we will discover with wonder how our prayers have been answered.
