Let your will be "fete"

Search the Scriptures

On this mountain, the Eternal, the master of the universe, prepares for all peoples a feast of succulent dishes, a feast of good wines, of succulent dishes, full of marrow, of good wines, clarified. Isaiah 25.6

"To fete" : this is a phrase that may seem unpopular in our churches. The Christian life would be a stoic life, of moderation and deprivation vis-à-vis all forms of "worldliness". While I understand the laudable and biblical reasons behind this view, let's not banish all forms of "partying" from our lives too quickly.

When Jesus performs his first miracle during a wedding – the most emblematic example of a feast – by changing water into wine, he reminds us that the social issues behind this act are important. To the question : "What does such a gesture reveal about Jesus' mission in this world ?", theologian Timothy Keller offers the following answer : "Jesus said in a way : "I am the one the true master of the banquet. It is I, the Lord of the feast.'" For ultimately, the feast to which we are all invited is the "marriage feast of the Lamb" of which the Apocalypse speaks to us. , in eternity with God.

The author Sophia Kuby observes with great lucidity that "one of the problems today is that we Christians have largely lost the taste for Heaven". We have a cruelly boring and pleasureless image of eternity. But, it is not so! In these gloomy times when we have sometimes suffered from "social distancing", we can relearn the art of celebrating, of rejoicing, of finding ourselves.

Not for "counterfeit parties" whose sole purpose is to clear your head, forget the daily grind or indulge in excess. But rather for festivities that lead us to experience a "taste" of the greatest party that history has ever known, and to which you and I are invited ! It is in this that our festivities on earth can constitute a spiritual discipline which deserves, I am convinced, all our attention.

Listen the voice of God

Let's take the time to listen to what God wants to say. Perhaps you have lost "the taste of Heaven", let the Holy Spirit give you back the joy of your salvation.

Praying is simple. Speak to God as you would your closest friend. God loves you and he can hear everything. Here is an example of a prayer : "Father, I thank you for this invitation to the divine feast that you are preparing, for this "taste" of Heaven that you are making possible on this earth. I have lost it, and to place you at the center of my rejoicing when I am in joy. Amen."

Praise God

To praise God is to express our gratitude to him. Today, what are your subjects of recognition ? Take a time to thank the Lord.

Act today

Now, deepen what you have received. What can you put in place to apply what God has told you ? Write down concrete actions you can take.

Honor the Lord

Our journey for the day ends. Let us pray together to honor our God.

"Lord, thank you because I will rejoice in eternity with you. Yours is the reign, the power and the glory, amen !"
