It was by faith that Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter, preferring to be mistreated with the people of God than to have for a time the enjoyment of sin, gazing at the reproach of Christ as wealth greater than the treasures of Egypt, for he had his eyes set on reward. Hebrews 11.24-26

We saw it yesterday, the circumstances of our life can be appreciated very differently, according to the lighting which the natural glance gives, or that which gives the glance of the faith.

The Bible tells us of the example of Moses, born into an Israelite family, in the time of the Pharaohs. The order had been given by one of them to put to death any Israelite boy who was born.

Moses' parents then hide their baby for three months. Then, his mother places him in a small waterproof box and places him among the reeds by the river. There he is discovered by Pharaoh's daughter, who (unknowingly) entrusts him to her real mother for the duration of the suckling, then adopts him. Moses, brought up at Court, is considered the son of the Pharaoh's daughter. He is instructed in all the wisdom of the Egyptians (Acts 7:22). What an enviable situation, when the Israelites, slaves, are cruelly oppressed by this same Pharaoh !

However, having grown up, Moses abandons everything. He renounces the comfort and honors of the Court. Chosen by God for this mission, he joins his oppressed people to bring them out of Egypt. Then he will lead him, at the cost of multiple difficulties, through the desert. Madness compared to the career he could have considered ?

No, Moses' faith in God is in his promises elevated him above visible and passing things. It enabled him to appreciate the needs of the people loved by God, and to devote himself entirely to them. Moses "proved steadfast, as seeing him who is invisible" (Hebrews 11:27).
