Like a glove !

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, benevolence, faith, meekness, self-control.” Galatians 5. 22

We are the glove, the Holy Spirit is the hand that fills it, gives it strength and makes it work properly. Without Him we have no chance of getting by. The Christian life is not difficult to live, it is impossible to live without the power of the Holy Spirit in us. But what is the action of the Holy Spirit in us ?

1- It allows us to move forward. “The earth was chaos and emptiness. There was darkness on the surface of the deep and the Spirit of God hovered over the water. God said : Let there be light ! and there was light” (Genesis 1:2-3). The first action of the Spirit of God will be to lead you out of darkness into light, so that you will understand who God is. If the Spirit of God fills you you will not be able to stay put, He will always push you forward.

2- He comforts us. Jesus spoke of Him as a Comforter who would always be with us (John 14:16). When you wake up one morning scared of what you are going to experience during the day that begins, it is He who whispers in your ear : “Don’t worry, I have everything planned.” When you feel ready to give up everything, it is He who takes you by the hand, stays close to you to encourage you and support you, saying to you : “I am here, right next to you.” The Greek word for comforter is paracletos which means exactly : the one who stands right next to you to help you. Here is His promise : “you are not fighting alone, you have divine support. Lean on Him !”

3- He protects us. “When the adversary arises like a river, the Spirit of the Lord will put him to flight” (Isaiah 59:19). As soon as you feel the enemy approaching you, all you have to do is pray : “Holy Spirit, be my shield and my protector.” Walk with courage. Do not hesitate to invoke Him. Those who dared to do so, and whose adventures we read throughout the Bible, saw their defeated enemies flee before them, were able to appropriate their spoils and enjoy the many divine blessings. You can do the same !
