Look for excellence !
“I am running toward the goal to win the prize of God's heavenly calling in Jesus Christ.” Philippians 3:14
If the standards that others expect of you are more exacting than the ones you set for yourself, you are not fully exploiting your potential. Former basketball star Bill Bradley attended basketball training camp one summer at the age of 15. During the internship, then star Ed Macauley told him : “If you don't train hard, there will always be someone else, as good as you, but who will train more. to reach his full potential and one day you will play against him and he will win.” It is not your competition or your critics who should determine the level and thoroughness of your training. You alone should be the judge ! Jon Johnston, professor of psychology, pointed out where the line between success and excellence lies : “You are successful if you evaluate your own worth by comparing yourself to others while excellence is measured by the yardstick. of its own potential. Success smiles for a few, but remains a dream for the multitude. Excellence, on the other hand, is available to everyone but very few accept the challenge." The life of Jesus knew one day an embarrassing moment : “The high priest asked Jesus about his disciples and about his teaching” (John 18. 19). Regarding His teaching, Jesus could say this : “Ask those who have heard me about what I have said to them ; they know what I said” (John 18. 21), but about His disciples He could not say much, because all had forsaken Him. When we are asked about our doctrine, we may say : "Ask those who have heard me." But when asked about our faithfulness as followers of Christ, can we answer, “Ask those who know me ?” Do people know you as lukewarm, fearful, someone whose life has little impact on those around you ? Or, on the contrary, can you say, like Paul : “I am running towards the goal to win the prize of God's heavenly calling in Jesus Christ.” Are you looking for excellence ?
