Maintain a healthy relationship with your body !
“Beloved, I wish that you prosper in every way and be in good health, like your soul.” 3 John 1. 2
We are mortal and fragile human beings, with physical, mental, emotional and spiritual needs, not robots. If we exceed our limits or ignore our body's warnings, we risk an accident. A speed limit sign at the entrance of a dangerous bend is there to teach us to be careful. Likewise, do not neglect the danger signals that our body sends us. Let's learn to interpret them correctly. God has placed a variety of emotions within us to inform us of our good physical and emotional health. For example, if you are feeling too tired to stay focused, it is time to take a break and “de-stress” yourself. Our bodies need food, but also rest, love and exercise to function well. If you are living a mile a minute, surviving on sandwiches, caffeine, and a lot of adrenaline, God may step in and force you to rest. How many of God's children understood the importance of maintaining a healthy relationship with their bodies after waking up in a hospital bed after a stroke or angina ? Even Jesus sometimes felt the need to isolate Himself to rest with His disciples (Mark 6:31-32). In the midst of a storm that frightened them, Jesus took the time for a short nap at the bottom of a boat (Mark 4.35) ! Taking the time to rest is not a sign of laziness, but simply to follow Jesus' example. John, writing to a friend points out to him that his physical health is as important as his spiritual health ! So, let's learn to eat well, to take the time to live, to rest, to practice regular exercise, all in order to remain effective in our service.
