Make the decision to forgive

Evil people, liars, open their mouths against me, they speak of me to tell lies. Their words of hatred surround me on all sides, and they attack me without reason. I have friendship for them. In exchange, they accuse me, but I pray for them. Psalms 109: 2-4

Has it ever happened to you to undergo calumny, rumor, hatred ? Yes of course ! We are all confronted with that. But the worst is when the attacks come from relatives, friends, family members, in short, people we love and trust.

In the course of his life the author of this psalm, David, has experienced it many times : despised by his brothers, wrongly accused by his father-in-law, betrayed for his son, insulted by his own subjects etc.

And yet, what an extraordinary statement ! When his friends accuse him and turn against him, he does not seek revenge !

 To forgive is to have faith in the perfect justice of God.

How is it possible ? This seems so unnatural to us who love to defend ourselves, justify ourselves and take revenge ...

The secret of David ? Prayer : "But I pray for them !" Only the time spent in the presence of the perfect and righteous God can give us the strength to accomplish what is impossible for us: to abandon revenge. When we are visited by the love of the Father, we give him our burdens and our wounds.

Forgiving is not forgetting or denying the damage that has been suffered. To forgive is to have faith in the perfect justice of God.

You think it is not possible to forgive, that you will never have the strength ? It's normal ! Go and seek help from God in prayer and he will perform the miracle.

A prayer for today

Lord God, I give you my heart, my wounds due to the lies and the hatred of this person of my family, this friend, this colleague ... I can not do it alone, by my own will but I take the firm decision to forgive and I believe that you perform the miracle in my life. Amen.
