"I am the gate : if anyone enters by me, he will be saved ; He will come in and out, and find pasture." John 10. 9
At the beginning of this chapter, Jesus speaks of the door of the Jewish sheepfold, the one by which he leads the Israelites who believe in him to introduce them into another domain of which he is the door.
This domain is the kingdom of God in which only he who is born again can be admitted, that is, he who came to Jesus with repentance and faith in the love of God. Believers of all peoples and races are soon joined by the Jews who have left their sheepfolds. They enjoy together the freedom of the children of God, guided and guarded by Jesus, the good shepherd who leads them in and out.
We enter to perform the service of the "holy priesthood" (1 Pet. 2: 5), to offer spiritual sacrifices to God; Not of the animals slaughtered, but of the words and deeds produced in us by the Holy Spirit. Thus we bring our praise to God ; We put at our service our bodies, our goods, our capacities. We turn to him with gratitude and adoration. We submit ourselves entirely and joyfully to his will.
We go out to perform the service of the "royal priesthood" (1 Pet. 2: 9), to tell men what God has done for them and to invite them to also go through Jesus, the only door that gives access to God. We testify that he brought us from the kingdom of darkness to that of light, from the kingdom of death to that of eternal life. To the benefit of such grace, we must announce it to others. So let us go forth to preach the good news of salvation in Jesus Christ to those who perish.
Through it we are assured of finding food in abundance. When we enter the presence of God and communicate with him through prayer and Bible meditation, the Holy Spirit nourishes us with Jesus Christ, the bread of God. When we go out to others to witness the love of Jesus, we are refreshed according to the promise of Scripture : "He that waters shall be watered himself" (Prov.11: 25).
