"Me, I am the truth"

"Pilate said to him : Are you king then ? Jesus answered : You say that I am a king. I was born in the world for this and I came into the world for this, to bear witness to the truth. Whoever is of the truth hear my voice." John 18. 37

"What is truth ?" This question of Pilate is a confession. Indeed, what is the truth for men who have lost touch with God and have no reliable reference to make judgments about people and circumstances ?

Truth is found only in God : He alone, the Creator, knows everything and carries an exact appreciation of everything, including that which is inaccessible to men, like thoughts and feelings. We can say that God dominates over the realm of truth. On the contrary, the devil is "the father of lies" and he dominates over a world of lies from which truth is, if not excluded, at least terribly altered.

"God was in Christ" (2 Corinthians 5:19), he is the king of this kingdom of truth. He came, he said, "to bear witness to the truth" in a world that thirsts for certainties, but who today, as yesterday, refuses those that God offers it.

We believers, we always need to strengthen the spiritual foundations of our reasoning to remain in the truth. Indeed, we are continuously under pressure from:

- from the outside, that is to say, from the world in which we are obliged to live and whose ways of thinking are totally opposed to God. But there are also habits and doctrines of one or the other which are not always founded on the Bible;

From the interior, that is, from our feelings, from our natural affections, but also, and more seriously, from our unjudged lusts.

What security can we turn to God and :

- look at Jesus Christ who said : "I am ... the truth" (John 14: 6)

- to consider his Word : "Your Word is the truth" (John 17:17)

- listen to the Holy Spirit : "The Spirit is the truth" (1 John 5: 6)

Submissive to Jesus, let us apply ourselves to live in truth and to speak the truth to one another.
