Moses in front of Pharaoh

"And Moses and Aaron went, and said unto Pharaoh, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Let my people go, that they may celebrate a feast in the wilderness." Exodus 5. 1

Moses baby had been deposited in a casket floating on the Nile to escape death. He had been collected by Pharaoh's daughter and raised at the royal court ; he had lived for 40 years in luxury and abundance. After killing an Egyptian who abused a Hebrew, he had to flee into the Madian desert and live as a modest shepherd for 40 years.

It is there that the LORD calls him : "I will send you to Pharaoh, and you shall bring out my people out of Egypt, the children of Israel" (Exodus 3:10). Moses feels a very understandable anxiety : to return to the court from which he had to flee, especially since the shepherds of small cattle were an abomination to the Egyptians (Gen. 46. 34)! He will make many arguments, often misleading, for not having to meet Pharaoh, until God gets angry and adjoins Aaron to accompany him ; one speaking, the other acting. Here he is now in front of Pharaoh !

It is God who addresses the sovereign through the mouth of Moses, but the monarch remains inflexible. Moses and Aaron will appear several times before the pharaoh who will harden more and more, despite the wounds sent to his country. Moses is going to get bolder and when the Pharaoh hunts him, he answers : "As you said, I will not see your face again" (Ex. It will take a last plague for Pharaoh this time to ask Moses and Aaron to come back and say to them, "Arise, get out of my people and go away, and bless me too" (Ex. 31, 32).

Arrived fearful before the king, Moses had gradually taken boldness with the powerful and infallible support of the Lord. Despite the risks involved, in the company of Aaron, he met Pharaoh 10 times, was a faithful messenger from God and a decisive element for the people of Israel to leave Egypt and set out for the land of Canaan; and he will be the guide during the 40 years of the desert.

Joseph, Jacob, Moses were instruments kept in the hands of God and God desires that today each of his children be a faithful instrument in his hands ... and he will bless him abundantly.
