Mountains to conquer
“You have stayed near this mountain long enough. Turn and go; go to the mountains.” Deuteronomy 1.6
During our lifetime, we encounter many mountains. Mountains of different heights, isolated mountains and mountain ranges that seem to stretch to the end of the horizon. Mountains of despair, regrets, bitterness, anger, sadness and doubts, loneliness and change... etc. Conquering them takes time and perseverance. Sometimes it seems more reasonable to stay at the foot of the mountain rather than attempt to climb it. God allows us times of rest, especially after a difficult trial, to regain our strength, but there comes a time when He tells us as He said to the Hebrew people : “You have stayed long enough near this mountain... go to the mountains...” Our journey down here is not a resort. Mountains will always loom on the horizon, mountains to climb to strengthen our character and resilience. Each ascent will be different from the previous one. Sometimes we stumble and fall face down, sometimes we slip uncontrollably. But at every step, God is there to support us. Kristin Armstrong had this lovely word : “Listen to the voice of God, for He is your Sherpa. It is He who will actually carry your heavy equipment on His shoulders, He who will show you where to set your feet on the path. He will also throw the abseil rope to you when you have to descend an impressive cliff". Notice a detail : when God ordered the people to leave the area around Sinai to head for other lands, He sent them first...to other mountains, those of the Amorites (Deuteronomy 1:7) ! Because your faith, strengthened by the ascent of the previous mountain, will allow you to face the following ones.
