Jesus of Nazareth, who went from place to place doing good and healing all who were under the rule of the devil, because God was with him. Acts 10. 38
Much more than a giant leap
July 21, 1969. Astronaut Neil Armstrong is the first Earthling to set foot on the moon. There, he pronounced a sentence broadcast by all the media : "A small step for man... a giant step for mankind".
Admittedly, these small steps of the astronauts concretized the giant step which science and the technique had made to allow this short extraterrestrial visit.
James Irwin, 8th man to have walked on the moon, will affirm : "The most important thing is not that a man has walked on the moon, but that God has walked on the earth in the person of Jesus Christ". That's a whole other analysis. Twenty centuries earlier, the coming to earth of Jesus Christ was thus announced : "The rising sun has visited us from above to enlighten those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to direct our not on the road to peace"(Luke 1. 78, 79). In Jesus, God came to meet us. The expression "giant leaps" is not sufficient to say that Jesus came from heaven to live among us on earth.
Who will then describe his "steps" on earth, how he tirelessly walked, doing good to all ? And what about his last steps ? "Jesus carrying his cross, leave the city to go to the place called the Skull and that Golgotha says in Hebrew. It is there that they crucified him" (John 19, 17, 18). There, on the cross, "Christ, who loved us and gave himself for us" (Ephesians 5:2). What an extraordinary act, much more than a "giant leap" to save humanity ! Even today he who calls on the name of Lord is saved from eternal judgment, to be with Jesus for eternity.
