My beloved Son

A voice uttered these words from heaven : This is my beloved Son, who with all my approval. Matthew 3:17

My beloved Son

Twice during the life of Jesus on earth, the voice of God was heard to declare : "This is my beloved Son, who with all my approval". The first time on the banks of the Jordan, when Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist (Matthew 3:17), the second time on the mountain, where his face changed appearance and became luminous like the sun (17:5).

The gaze of God continually follows everything that is happening on this earth. And since the beginning of human history, he has always had before his eyes the spectacle of sin marking everything with its odious imprint. No human being has earned his approval. Only Jesus, the man who was obedient to the divine will to the point of giving his life (John 10:17,18), received this mark of divine approval : "Who has all my approval". For the first time, God was expressing his complete satisfaction with a man. Thus was fulfilled in Christ what the angels had proclaimed at his birth : "Benevolence among men" (Luke 2:14).

His life was perfect, he was the beloved Son of God. In his divine power, he "stripped himself by assuming the condition of a servant, by becoming like human beings" (Philippians 2:7). He was truly a man, while still being the Son of God.

Let us bow to the testimony of divine love, manifested in this unique Person : the Beloved of God, who came to earth to save us. Let's listen to him !
