The "Proust questionnaire" is a series of thirty questions, intended to identify the personality of the person who accepts to answer it. This questionnaire, which Proust had adapted from an English game, became famous for his answers.

In 1972, when one of his novels was published, Gilbert Cesbron (1913-1979) was asked to complete Proust's questionnaire. To the question "what would be my greatest misfortune", he replied : "No longer live in the proximity of Jesus of Nazareth". A few years later he published a new novel, and Proust's questionnaire was made to him ; To the famous question, he replied : "No longer live in the company of the Christ of Nazareth. The two answers given a few years apart could be superimposed! Gilbert Cesbron had never hidden his faith, and all his books were impressed. A literary critic had said of him that he was "a builder of a kingdom that is not of this world, a knight of Christ in the age of the beast." Remarkable homage !

Beautiful consistency in the answers made by Gilbert Cesbron ! To read them, one can not doubt their sincerity. This leads us to ask ourselves two questions in turn : "What would be our greatest desire ?" On the one hand, but also : "Would we always respond with the same constancy" ?

The believer who has become aware of his state of perdition, who has brought his sins to Christ, who has put on salvation and forgiveness, has only one desire: to live in the closeness of Jesus, his Savior. Then time passes and in time this desire of proximity risks dulling if customs and traditions take precedence over the freshness of the first love. The activity within the local church can be as intense, too intense at times; It can put the desire for life in the proximity of Jesus to the background. It is acting more than being !
