Behold, as the eyes of servants look to the hand of their lords, and the eyes of a maidservant to the hand of her mistress, so our eyes look to the Eternal our God, until he give thanks. Psalm 123.2 Revised New Segond Version
Obedience to the Master
On the beach, a young man eats an appetizing hamburger. At his feet, his dog observes him intensely. The master gives a fry. The pooch wriggles and chews although, obviously, this is not what he wants. His demeanor is still polite with the lettuce leaf, even though his eyes beg for a "grace." It will take long minutes for the reward to finally arrive : a piece of meat and the right to lick the plate. A fine example of obedience and patience !
In the past, masters and mistresses made their wishes and feelings known to the servants by hand gestures. To the servants to be attentive to it ! In today's verse, the psalmist manifests a humble attitude, a trusting submission to the Lord. He knows that God, as a loving Father, wants to give him good things. We are encouraged to come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in our time of need (Hebrews 4:16). Will you, like beggars of his grace, obey him fully ? You will be blessed if you do it in faith in Christ, his Son, with the desire to please him !
