Of all my heart

"I will praise you with all my heart ... I will bow down to the temple of your holiness, and I will praise your name for your goodness and for your truth ; for you have exalted your word above every name ... Eternal ! your goodness dwells forever." Psalm 138. 1, 2, 8

The Christian knows and has experienced for himself the greatness of salvation which God has given him by the death of his Son on the cross; it fills him with deep gratitude. It is expressed by fervent thanksgiving : "Thanks to God for his inexpressible gift !" (2 Corinthians 9:15). It is the same when we realize, every day and at every step, what are the resources of our new life in Christ and what are the "immense riches of his grace, in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus" (Eph. 2. 4-7). Our hearts, touched and marveled by the means used for us to be "now children of God" (1 John 3. 2), can only celebrate God, our Father.

This eternal goodness of God and His truth appear in all their glory in Jesus Christ ; the Son of God, the Word made flesh, thanks to the fullness and perfection of his testimony : "No one has ever seen God ; the only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, he hath made him known" (John 1:18). He does it today by his word and the action of his Spirit.

As we read the Word of God, we see Christ live, we learn to know God in the infinity of his person, and we sometimes feel what the disciples on the road to Emmaus have experienced : "Did not our heart burn ? not within us, when He spoke to us on the way, and opened the Scriptures to us ?" (Luke 24. 32). When my heart is filled with the revelation that God gives of himself, adoration springs up spontaneously. In addition to thanksgiving for the gift of his Son and praise for what he has done for us, adoration feeds on God's self, enriching the times of worship, in private or in assembly.
