Only God can judge me

The one who judges me is the Lord. 1 Corinthians 4.4

Do not pass judgment until the Lord's appointed time, for He will bring to light what is hidden in darkness and He will reveal the intentions of hearts. 1 Corinthians 4.5

Only God can judge me

This phrase is often pronounced lightly, and used to evade criticism. Unfair criticism, in our opinion : we are not understood, we are attributed bad intentions, we want to hurt us. "Only God can judge me", is displayed on a T-shirt, on social networks, sometimes on the body by tattoo.

"He who judges me is the Lord." It is an expression of the Word of God, so it is perfectly true, and whoever utters or displays such a sentence must know well what it means for him. God clearly sees what is in our hearts, and what are our motives... Nothing escapes his gaze. His judgment does not take into account our standards. Now the standard of God is his holiness. The Ten Commandments that God gave to his people have brought to light the fact that all men are at the same point : unable to do the will of God, they all deserve to be condemned.

The judgment of God is the only one that matters, even if the appreciation of men may have more immediate consequences. God's judgment has consequences for eternity.

It is a courageous step, in fact, to really place oneself before God, in his light and to understand what he really thinks of me. It is also a salutary step, since this light leads me to say : "I am a sinner", and to turn to him to receive his forgiveness.
