If you cross the waters, I will be with you... If you walk in the fire, you will not be burned, and the flame will not burn you. Isaiah 43.2
The testing of your faith produces patience. James 1. 3
Our faith : hardened steel
The hardening of the steel makes it more resistant. The blacksmith uses fire and water for this. By analogy, the test for the believer can take several forms, but all contribute to forging his faith.
- The test teaches us patience. This is tested by every obstacle in our path. Our will is then set aside and God's will is accepted as good (Romans 12:2).
- The test teaches us courage. It makes it possible to experience the grace of God, who sustains when it is necessary to approach suffering. It forms us so that we will remain standing until the end, like good soldiers of Jesus Christ.
- The test experienced with Jesus reveals to us his living grace which accompanies us. It shows us what a life with Christ can accomplish, even in suffering. She is the demonstration that Christ suffices for all situations.
- The test enables us to help others through the lessons learned during our personal experiences. The Lord prepares us and uses us in turn to comfort, strengthen and encourage our neighbour.
"Blessed be God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our afflictions, that by the comfort which God gives us , we may console those who are in some affliction !” (2 Corinthians 1. 3, 4).
- Finally, the test brings us closer to Christ and teaches us to know him better.
