Our greatest need

I extend my hands to you, I sigh after you like a thirsty earth. Psalm 143: 6

Not so long ago, I visited the dean of a large American university. We looked out the window of his office and watched hundreds of students head for their classes. I asked the dean : "What is the biggest problem at this university ?" He thought for a moment and said : "Empty." Today, many people are bored, lonely, looking for something. You can see it on their faces.

A girl who came home from college told her rich father : "Father, I want something but I do not know what it is." This is true for many people ; we want something to answer the deepest problems of our life, but we have not found it. David said : "I found it. I will not miss anything." The Apostle Paul said : "I have learned to be happy in the state I am in."

You do not have to give up on life, lift your arms up in the air and shout : "It's useless." You can have the peace of God, the joy of God, the happiness of God, the security of God ; and yours can become the most exciting life in the world.

Prayer for the day

Lord Jesus, you quench the thirst and aspiration of my soul. Praise to your blessed name.

Billy Graham
