Our hair
Don't we sell five sparrows for two small pieces ? However, none of them is forgotten before God. Even your hairs are all numbered. Luke 12:6-7
We pay great attention to our hair. They greatly contribute to our appearance and the image we want to convey of ourselves. Do we know that we have between 100,000 and 150,000 ? Their growth cycle varies between 2 and 4 years for men and 4 to 7 years for women. They can grow up to 2 cm per month. We lose about 50 a day, more in the fall than in the spring. Fortunately, hair that falls out will grow back about twenty-five times in a lifetime. So we're not a hair's breadth away and it wouldn't occur to us to count them all...
When Jesus says that God knows the exact number, when it seems so unimportant to us, it is good to show us, in comparison, how important we are in his eyes ! Likewise, if he takes care of simple sparrows that have so little market value, how much more will he take care of each of us !
How much that should reassure us about God's concern for us. We can sometimes feel that he is indifferent, far removed from our concerns, especially in difficult times. So with each hair that falls, let us remember that this God who loves us does not forget us. Isn't it rather we who forget it ?
