There will be famines, pestilences and earthquakes in various places. Matthew 24. 7
Who only has to speak for something to happen, if the Lord has not ordered it ? Lamentations of Jeremiah 3:37
The Lord... is patient with us, not wanting any to perish but all to come to repentance. 2 Peter 3. 9
Pandemic
April 2020. The worldwide upheaval we have witnessed is due to a microscopic virus, whose devastating effect on health and the economy is far greater than that of a powerful army.
We are not making a direct connection to Bible prophecy ; but who will dispute that such an event caused by such a small means, which escapes all human power or authority, is not under the control of the Creator ? Already before the flood, "the earth was corrupted before God, it was full of violence" (Genesis 6:11). God grieved over it and had to speak to mankind through various cataclysms, famines or pestilences.
At such times, helpless witnesses are dismayed and filled with compassion for all who suffer and for those who put themselves at risk while working to rescue them. Is there a cry of revolt against God in us? Let us allow ourselves to be enlightened by his Word : "I know the plans that I am forming for you, declares the Lord, a plan of peace and not of misfortune, in order to give you a future and hope" (Jeremiah 29. 11). "When he causes sorrow, he shows compassion, so great is his kindness. In fact, it is not with a good heart that he humiliates, that he causes sorrow in men" (Lamentations of Jeremiah 3. 32, 33).
The God of peace wants to deliver us from evil and warn us of the coming judgment. Patient, he still directs our eyes to the only means of salvation that he offers free of charge through the gospel. God "the Father sent the Son as Savior of the world" (1 John 4:14). He invites us to share his compassion, to pray for all, and to proclaim the good news of salvation in Jesus Christ.
