Patience

Join to your faith, virtue ; and to virtue, knowledge ; and to knowledge, self-control ; and to self-control, patience... 2 Peter 1:5-8

Patience is accepting that it always takes time for God's work to take place in us or in others. You have certainly had this experience that patience is essential in order to progress in the study of the Word of God. You also need patience before you see the fruits of a testimony given to relatives or comrades.

Patience is also knowing how to peacefully await the answer to a prayer, or the deliverance from a trial. Moreover, this word patience translates a Greek word which means "endurance in the test". But trial is part of the education of Christians : it is God who allows it to show your patience in the commitment of your faith (Romans 5:3). James even writes that we should rejoice when trials come to us, for they are designed to perfect us and specifically to teach us patience (James 1:2-4).

It is the children who are impatient, who want everything, and now. To learn patience is therefore to become an adult and, for Christians, it is to trust God more and more every day. Showing patience in all circumstances of life will also become a mark of your maturity among your classmates or workmates, as well as a testimony, perhaps without words, but how eloquent in this world where impatience reigns. In all areas.

Patience sometimes works with suffering, and this is understandable, since it is the fruit of trial. So to encourage all of us, James, speaking of the patience of the tried and tested Job, said : You have seen the end granted by the Lord - that the Lord is compassionate and merciful (James 5:11).
